Primark

Although Southampton is a bit out of the way for those of you at Winchester Uni, Primark has so many bargains that the £3 train ticket is definitely worth it! Besides, it's rumoured that we have a Primark opening in Winchester soon so let's just call this research.

I popped in today for a browse and found this...

This cheeky little black dress with a white netted front. £11... absolute BARGAIN!! Perfect for a evening out with the girls. Who needs to know?

DIY Fashion...

Being a student... as you can imagine, money is tight. But next time you're having a clearout, why not turn your old stuff into new stuff! This is exactly what I decided to do today. I discovered an old pair of jeans that I no longer wear and decided to turn it into something that never dates - the denim skirt.

1. First I laid the jeans out and cut them roughly to a length slightly longer than I wanted to allow for mistakes.
2. This leaves you with a pair of denim shorts. After this step it begins to get tricky! You have to cut along the inside seam of each leg as far as the crotch. If you have a seam stripper then alternatively you can just undo the old seams for a neater look.
3. You now have to play around with the seams and arrange them to come together neatly. Once you have done this you can pin it in place while you sow it together. I placed one side on top of the other and used a running stitch which I placed in the middle of the original machine stitch. If you prefer you can turn the material inside out and sow it together in blanket stitch style so that when you turn in back the stitch isn't visible.

If you get this far... well done!! Tricky bit over, now you can have some fun. I picked up some assorted buttons from Fabric Land to sew on for detail.

Skirt complete! Total cost... one pair of old jeans, 19p for a needle, £1 thread and about £1.20 for the buttons :)

Edgy Florals

Everybody is wearing them... it's everywhere. Floral has well and truly taken over but how do you follow the trend without looking like a strip of your grandmothers wallpaper? It's all in the accesories of course! Edgy floral is a bit barbie meets rockstar but if you wear the right jacket you can pull it off. I've seen floral being teamed with leather jackets and black shoe boots for a roughed up girly hybrid but while browsing the stores I much preferred the look when teamed with a denim jacket. I put together outfits at River Island and New Look to show what looks you can achieve on different budgets.

River Island
I found this floral playsuit and thought it was a great alternative to the floral dress, add to it a denim jacket and you're ticking two style boxes! I couldn't decide whether I preferred the stonewash colour or traditional denim colour jacket so I've uploaded both pictures to illustrate both individual looks. You can pick up this cheeky playsuit for £24.99 and both denim jackets for £39.99 at River Island.
New Look

I went to New Look to create the same style and fell.in.love.with.these SHOES! The floral dress was £10, denim jacket £25 and as that only comes to £35 for the outfit you can justify the shoes on top which were £25.

River Island Outfit Total : £64.98

New Look Outfit Total : £35 + £25 shoes = £60

Utility Trousers

Utility Glam is a trend that's taking the celebrity world by storm this season. Victoria Beckham has been spotted teaming a khaki coloured pair of utility trousers with a black blazer, neutral coloured heels and oversized sunnies for a bang upto date smart casual style. Cheryl Cole has also been snapped wearing the trousers. She wore a lighter green pair with black cut out style heels, a leather jacket and dark sunglasses. If you are looking to follow in the footsteps of these fashion divas then I've found a similar style in both New Look and River Island.

The River Island pair are the more expensive pair but they win in the comfort department. The only flaw is that the light tone to them makes them appear too casual to team with heels for a glam look like the stars. I do, however adore the braces attached and would wear them for a casual daytime look. The New Look version are very tight in the calf so depending on your figure you may need to play around with sizes. There's a zip at the bottom of each trouser leg providing some edgy detail but may look noisy if you wear patterned shoes so try to keep it simple.

Hello!

Well... Let me just start by explaining the point of this blog! I'm not saying I am some sort of fashionista, quite the opposite actually! But I do like to look good and living in Winchester there's so little to choose from shopping wise! So what I have decided to do it start up this blog aimed at female Winchester students. I will read up on what looks and trends are making the headlines (of Cosmo of course!) and head to the streets of Winchester to recreate the look and take a picture that will show what the outfit looks like on a real girl and not an airbrushed model!

Expect the first post on Tuesday :) Wish me luck!
