Being a student... as you can imagine, money is tight. But next time you're having a clearout, why not turn your old stuff into new stuff! This is exactly what I decided to do today. I discovered an old pair of jeans that I no longer wear and decided to turn it into something that never dates - the denim skirt.
1. First I laid the jeans out and cut them roughly to a length slightly longer than I wanted to allow for mistakes.

2. This leaves you with a pair of denim shorts. After this step it begins to get tricky! You have to cut along the inside seam of each leg as far as the crotch. If you have a seam stripper then alternatively you can just undo the old seams for a neater look.
3. You now have to play around with the seams and arrange them to come together neatly. Once you have done this you can pin it in place while you sow it together. I placed one side on top of the other and used a running stitch which I placed in the middle of the original machine stitch. If you prefer you can turn the material inside out and sow it together in blanket stitch style so that when you turn in back the stitch isn't visible.

If you get this far... well done!! Tricky bit over, now you can have some fun. I picked up some assorted buttons from Fabric Land to sew on for detail.
Skirt complete! Total cost... one pair of old jeans, 19p for a needle, £1 thread and about £1.20 for the buttons :)
